This is a poll that has been posted in the past, and while at the time it was not very popular (And was ultimately added to failed votes, as it drug too far into the off-season), we must have forgotten to lock it, as at last glance, the numbers in favor vs. against are 13-to-6. In light of that, in light of the way NFL teams are constantly jerking us around re: their transparency on who will actually kick for them, and in light of our issues with the K rule in the past--particularly recently, re: selective enforcement of the rule that had implications on our season last year, I think the tide has turned, and therefore, this poll merits a reposting.
The way this would work is an immediate elimination of all kickers from existing rosters, without the usual cap penalty associated with a cut. Rosters would stay at 25-men, and salary cap and contract years would be unaffected. Please consider this proposal expeditiously, as we are currently approaching the 2nd Round of our UFA Draft, a round which usually signals the beginning of a run on kickers (Even more so with it being $1 this year). As stated in Discussions and on Discord, it is very much a bad idea to take a kicker right now. Please, do not do that.

With rosters staying at 25 men would the kicker spot be an extra bench or flex position?

Jokes on you guys, I cut my kicker last year. That actually brings up a debate we were having over on discord regarding this rule. Should we remove penalties from kickers or keep them on the books? I'm curious what others think

If you drop kickers then definitely drop the cap penalty.

I'm curious what others think I don’t really care but it seems like if you’re going to wipe kickers from the league then you would wipe their penalties too.

I say keep the existing pentales from previous cut Kickers. At the time of the Cut we had kickers you still should pay the price. Now if we vote to eliminate the Kickers and you have a Kicker on roster you don't get that penalty.

You guys are no fun. We have offense and defense, but want to get rid of kickers? #NoFunLeague
I don’t really care either way honestly. Just think they should stay if we are trying to replicate the NFL as close as possible

Just think they should stay if we are trying to replicate the NFL as close as possible I understand what you are saying, but of all of the positions, NFL teams are so secretive and awful about how they handle kickers/kicker information. The way NFL teams handle kickers is driving this. NFL teams signing kickers to long-term, non-guaranteed contracts in an off-season, only to pump and dump them on the eve of a season/sign competition (And then maybe ultimately re-sign them the next week) is not what we are here for. That has caused at least one team in our league to twice have to cut kickers before Week 1's games. Dealing with the fallout from that has just become untenable for this league.

Also, looks like the issue of whether or not to subtract the existing cap penalties for kickers is a deeply divided one. If this poll passes, perhaps we should post a very simple up or down vote to see if a majority can be produced there.

One last note—and this should be good news all-around (Or maybe it’s just me who cares about this)—it appears that the elimination of a kicker over a 13-game schedule would more or less offset the total points increase of adding a 13th game to about 50 points on average. With that being the case—and I’m open to doing so if necessary—I’m not even sure it matters to differentiate between 12-13 game season scoring in the record books. What say you, league?

Kickers are the one fantasy position that scales terribly with 32 teams. You can’t protect yourself against injuries by handcuffing your kicker with their backup because NFL teams don’t carry two kickers on their active roster.
Emulating the NFL only goes so far until it starts impacting the fantasy game we are emulating it with. There is a lot of format friction with kickers in 32 team leagues. Kickers jobs are also very volatile as they are cycled out constantly by some teams having issues. I understand the NFL purism argument, but kickers are a plague in this format.

What if we just did kickers by teams. So you own whatever kicker a team starts in a given week. That would alleviate many of the current issues while keeping the position.

Thats not really fair to owners. The better NFL teams will have kickers put up more points so it's not fair to just assign them to a fantasy team.
