In the off-season, each team will be awarded 5 total years to extend their players contracts. Teams do not have to use the years, or can choose to use any number of them from 1-5. Here is how the years can be applied: - Each player may have as few as 0, and as many as 3 extension years added to their contract. No player can be extended beyond the 5-year contract limit.
- Teams may not exceed the total number of contract extension years of 5 in any one off-season.
- Once posted, teams MAY NOT edit their posting to change the content of the post, unless directed to do so by a Commissioner/League Manager.
- Teams may not trade years with each other, but are free to use their extension years on players, and then trade them as they please.
- If any years go unused, they are lost, and no surplus of unused years will be rolled over, or credited back to you in the next off-season.
- To extend a player, you must increase his salary by $1.5 for one year. However, since 2016, if a team wants to extend the same player for more than one year at one point in time, you will receive a discount for the second and third years (i.e. for players who are extended more than one year, the first year is the standard $1.5, but the second year is discounted to $1, and the third year down to $0.5, meaning the total commitment for extending a player for three years would be $3).
