Pre-Season Power Rankings

Here are the Pre-Season Power Rankings, or Initial Power Rankings. I know that this is kind of late to be releasing them given that we're fully entrenched in Week 2, but there was a lot of data crunching to be done, so that's the reason for the delay. I also want to let you know that despite this, I have not even looked at any other games outside of my own match ups until today, and that these rankings have not changed whatsoever because of any result that has occurred in the season so far.

I only considered three factors when tallying this data; 1. I made sure to use the (legal) lineup that gave each team their highest possible point total to tally their points. 2. I did not include any players who had already been placed on Injured Reserve by their GM, or players who were not yet placed on IR by their GM but were placed on IR in real life. 3. I did not extrapolate or project any of my own statistics, only taking the Fantrax numbers verbatim. If you find any error that I made with this process, please let me know, but at this point, remember, I calculated these BEFORE the first week of the season, so it would reflect THAT lineup, and not one for which any trades or other additions/subtractions had been made. Lastly, the only two criteria I used to determine placement on this initial power rankings list is last year's finish and this year's point total, allowing me some subjectivity, but ultimately, being guided by this year's point projection (i.e. if I had to come up with my own rankings, these would not be them, but with Fantrax now making significant defensive point projections, it would be fairly close). So enjoy and don't misinterpret this as a slight to your team if you end up lower than another team yet outscored them in the initial Fantrax projections. It is simply a reflection of your team's finish a year ago.

Also keep in mind, for teams like Miami, Green Bay and Cleveland, who are seemingly way out of place here, all three of those (and perhaps several others, those are just three that I remember) experienced dramatic point shifts with moves they made after their original point totals were tabulated. Though I did update the tabulated points prior to Week 1, I did not change the ranking of any team as said above.
