Would you like to eliminate the loophole in the COVID IR rules that allows teams to take a penalty free flier on a player?

Suspended..... not eliminated. Which means you can reinstate it at your convenience at any time.

It will not be reinstated without serious changes--changes which would require a vote, just as the proposed rules were voted on, and approved last year.

We will rewrite the rule if it is deemed necessary to have a rule at all. It’s unlikely COVID will be a factor during the season like it was last year, so it’s unlikely we would need a rule other than having IR spots available for them if they are put on the COVID list.

While I voted yes on this pole I would like to provide options on how to eliminate the loophole but keep the ability to waive the player without penalty.
When placing a bid on a covid replacement player add the following rules:
1) When signing a COVID replacement it must be position for position 2) COVID replacement player bids are capped at $1/1y
There is simply no reason to get in a bidding war over a covid replacement.
I think the COVID IR rule really benefited the league last year, but as usual loopholes were exploited

Hopefully by then, COVID will not be much of a factor.

Just do first come first serve and the player automatically reverts back to free agency when whoever they replaced comes off COVID IR. If the GM still wanted that player then they would have to go through the normal bidding process.

Well every sport playing right now is still dealing with COVID issues
But hopefully it won’t be a problem, however I won’t hold my breath on that one

But I hear you. I don't want to minimize what it could be. Just saying, as of now, there are no plans to resurrect any parts of that rule.

I mean, I'm fine to say right now that we will not use the rule as written last year, this year. Not at all. The only way we would use even a small section, is if it were similarly proposed by a league member, agreed on, and voted upon/approved again. Obviously, that won't happen, and I wouldn't even vote for the rules that were written and put in place last year again--and I essentially wrote them. Hindsight is 20/20, and I fucked up. I didn't do a good enough job closing loopholes that I didn't see would exist. In the future, I welcome everyone to be a red team for me and shoot holes in my proposals, because often, we don't know what we're looking at in terms of loopholes until the rules are put to the test.

Looking at last year there were 35 posts in the COVID IR thread. Some were season opt outs and the rest were for players placed in the protocol during the season

It's amazing that we continue to garner votes on a rule that--and I feel like this shouldn't have to be stated publicly again, but apparently it does--NO LONGER EXISTS AT PRESENT.
