CLINCHED PLAYOFFS 1. Philadelphia 0 (9-1)- Tied for the best record in the league, Andrew can secure at least a share of the NFC East title by beating an ownerless New York Giants team this week, though if Dallas wins this week and beats Philly head-to-head in Week 12, the Cowboys will take the division. The Eagles racked up 136+ points this week despite a less than full lineup. That’s enough in my book to keep a hold on #1. They’ll be playoff bound with or without an NFC East crown.
CLINCHED PLAYOFFS 2. Seattle +1 (8-2)- The 142 points could actually be viewed as somewhat of a disappointment for Seattle, but was more than enough for a win this week over a hapless St. Louis team. Peyton was Peyton, Mike Evans had his first 20-point game, and with the Cardinals’ loss, the Seahawks move even in the NFC West and lock up a playoff spot. They climb one spot this week to #2.
CLINCHED PLAYOFFS 3. New England +1 (9-1)- A week after calling out NE, I have to eat my words to some degree. The Pats were second in the league in scoring to PIT, racking up an impressive 149+ points in an 80-point win over the winless, and far from full strength Jets. But, it represented the best week for NE in quite some time. Moving in the right direction with the playoffs approaching, New England has now clinched a playoff spot, and move up 1 in the PRs.
AFC NORTH WINNER 4. Pittsburgh +2 (8-2)- The Steelers led the league in points this week (166+) with a 56-point drubbing of the Benglas to win the AFC North. PIT will be a scary match up in the playoffs, especially if the Steelers are hitting that point total every week. Climbing 2 spots, PIT is up to #4.
CLINCHED PLAYOFFS 5. Dallas 0 (8-2)- Far from impressive this week, Dallas managed to win without Tom Brady, totaling 109 points. Without him, the offense was stagnant, but if it can recover to beat Washington in Week 11, will put the Cowboys in a 1-game, head-to-head, winner-take-all, season finale against the Eagles for the NFC East. But for now, DAL stays put at 5.
AFC SOUTH WINNER 6. Jacksonville +1 (8-2)- Jacksonville clinches the AFC South this week with a dominating 44-point win over Houston. A 50-point first half by Aaron Rodgers never hurts, and Denard Robinson continues to impress. Otherwise, not much to see here. The Jags climb one place to get back into the top-6.
CLINCHED PLAYOFFS 7. Arizona -5 (8-2)- The Cards had their worst week by far in Week 10, putting up a laughable 57 points. Two zeros and an inactive kicker in combination with the worst game of Andy Dalton’s career (a negative 8 points) meant the second loss of the season, and a very costly one in a heated division race with Seattle. Mett’s Cards freefall 5 places.
8. Denver +1 (7-3)- Tony Romo, Brandin Cooks, Johnathan Stewart and Andre Ellington combined for over 67 of the offense’s 72 points, and Alex Ogletree, Calais Campbell and Craig Robertson netted over 54 of the Denver defense’s 71. That’s impressive by itself, but considering that Riley Cooper, Jermaine Gresham, Cortez Allen, Corey Lemonier and Stephen Paea only combined for 6.5 points altogether, that the Broncos won and beat SD by over 60 points is more impressive. The Broncos are rounding into form, and can still win the AFC West by beating KC head-to-head this week. They’re turning into a scary playoff match up for someone in the AFC. This week, DEN climbs 1 spot.
9. Detroit +3 (7-3)- Despite having to start a skeleton crew offense, Detroit rolled over the previously-hot Pack on the way to a 35-point win and a near stranglehold on the NFC North. The defense was elite, getting 10+ point contributions by everyone but a handful of players. Now, only Minnesota can unseat Ryan as the division champion, requiring a victory head-to-head this week, and a DET loss and a MIN win in Week 12, a tall order, as the Lions have been one of the best teams in the league all year. Ryan’s Lions rise 3 spots to re-enter the top-10.
10. Kansas City +4 (7-3)- Matt Ryan actually showed up, and Jamaal Charles and Calvin Johnson more than did their part to carry the offense. Defensively, Brandon Marshall and Ron Parker combined for over 33 of the unit’s 53 points. With no kicker and short a defensive lineman, the point total for KC was capped, but 124 points and with a chance to lock up the division in Week 11, Brooks is back in business. It’s not the route we thought he would take to get here, but it might end up being all he needs to get the job done. The Chiefs climb 4 spots this week to get back into the top-10.
11. Miami -3 (7-3)- In three consecutive weeks, the Dolphins have fallen, dropping them from the ranks of the undefeated (and several weeks atop the power rankings), to a team that now requires help to win their division. The point totals have also been painful, as the ‘Fins have failed to come anywhere close to 100 points in consecutive weeks. A playoff spot isn’t even guaranteed for Donny’s team, though it is likely. If the Pats lose to the Bills in Week 11, and Miami goes 2-0, they’ll have staged an improbable comeback and win the AFC East. MIA drops 3 spots further to #11.
12. New York Giants -2 (6-4)- Four players hit 10 points for the Giants, but you wouldn’t know it from the sub-100 point outing they had last week against the Cowboys. The loss dropped the Giants to 6-4, and out of the race for the NFC East. They can still be a playoff team, but things are certainly trending down for them right now. NYG drops 2 spots.
13. Cincinnati -2 (6-4)- For the umpteenth consecutive week, Cincy was a dud on offense (two weeks straight due to losing a quarterback), totaling 27+ points as a unit. The wide receiver spot has become a real concern, and health at the TE spot is a question, but the defense has been elite, and should carry the Bengals to a playoff berth. CIN falls 2 places this week.
14. Baltimore +3 (5-5)- With a win over a competitive Cleveland team, Baltimore is back to .500 on the year, and still in contention for a playoff spot. Every player on the offense, save one, scored over 10 points, and the defensive unit was nearly equally elite at 75 points. The Ravens cannot win the division, but could finish in second-place by stealing a head-to-head from the Bengals this week and a CIN loss or BAL win in Week 12. BAL rises 3 spots this week with the win.
15. Washington -1 (5-5)- The ‘Skins put up a more than respectable 117 points, but short a tight end and taking a 0 from a linebacker spot is not a good formula when taking on the league’s #1. Washington, however, gets a reprieve in the form of a one-spot drop this week, taking into account the opponent, the performance and the overall body of work.
16. Tennessee -1 (5-5)- After Ryan Tannehill posted perhaps his best career game in Week 9, he came back to Earth with a 10-pointer in Week 10, and the rest of the offense only accounted for 16 points. The defense was very good, but couldn’t carry the offense or kickerless Titans to a win over the previous 1-win Colts. It doesn’t eliminate the Titans from playoff contention, but it did deal their fate in the AFC South, guaranteeing the division to the Jaguars. TEN falls one spot.
17. Minnesota -1 (5-5)- Without a quarterback or enough IDs last week, the Vikings lost a crucial game to the Bears, the division’s worst team, by 20 points. The loss makes it incredibly hard to win the NFC North, requiring two-straight wins and Detroit to lose in the final week of the season to Chicago. The Vikings picked the wrong time of the year to begin leaking oil, as their playoff life is still very much in question. MIN falls a spot to #17.
18. Buffalo +3 (4-6)- Sal’s Bills engineered a win over the Dolphins, and may have a chance to upset the division order in Week 11 against New England. Jordy Nelson, Mark Ingram and Chris Hogan have been phenomenal, and Buster Skrine and Avery Williamson had huge Week 10 performances to keep BUF in the playoff chase. BUF jumps 3 spots this week.
19. Green Bay 0 (5-5)- The Pack put up only 74 points, but that likely was a function of starting only three offensive players, two of which took a 0. It was a bad week to have that many byes, as Detroit was able to eliminate the Packers from division contention, although they are still very much alive for a playoff berth. Adequate defense, along with improved offense, will probably result in a bid for the surprising cheeseheads. GB stays put due to the performances of other teams.
20. Cleveland 0 (4-6)- Austin Davis really let down an impressive Cleveland lineup in Week 10 that received a 21-point game from rookie phenom Martavis Bryant, and 15+ point games from T.J. McDonald and Mason Crosby. Leodia McKelvin also topped the 10-point mark, but injured himself in doing so and is lost for the season. The Browns are still alive in the playoff race, but would probably have to win out to get there, an unlikely event with the division’s two-best teams by record remaining. Still, positive signs from a CLE team that won’t move a muscle in Week 10.
21. San Diego -3 (5-5)- Leif didn’t set his lineup, started only three players on offense and lost by over 60. He will be replaced in the off-season. The freefall continues, as the Chargers are eliminated from AFC West contention and their playoff hopes are dangling by a thread.
22. Chicago +2 (3-7)- Victorious in Week 10, Chicago has made the NFC North race much more interesting, though they themselves are eliminated from winning the division. Lots of Drew Brees and Casey Hayward in this one helped get them over the top, but though Chicago is still mathematically alive in the playoff race, the Bears probably not possess the requisite pieces to get it done. CHI rises 2 spots to #22.
23. Houston -1 (3-7)- Three zeros and an average game from Kyle Orton doomed the Texans, even with James Ihedigbo putting up one of the top performances by a DB all season. While Houston is still not technically eliminated from the playoffs, if any of the 5-win AFC teams do so this week, that will spell the end of the year for Houston. HOU drops one place this week.
24. Oakland -1 (3-7)- Short a quarterback and a defensive back, Oakland was probably lucky to come anywhere near the Chiefs’ 124 points, but the 100 points will not help the record of a team that now requires a lot of help to make the playoffs. At 3-7, the Raiders need to win out and have plenty of help to achieve that goal. OAK slides down one spot.
25. San Francisco +2 (3-7)- Although not really on their own merit, the Niners were victorious over Arizona this week due to several factors, mostly regarding how things went wrong for the Cardinals. Frank Gore and Trent Cole had good weeks, but otherwise it was a disappointing performance and a lucky win for a team that is still mathematically alive. SF rises 2 spots.
26. Carolina +3 (3-7)- Continuing an embarrassing season, both in the NFFL and in real life, the Panthers won despite falling short of 72 points on the day, a figure that still topped New Orleans by nearly 34 points. The Panthers, with 3 wins through 10 weeks, are now the division-leaders by at least a game. It’s now a three-way race to the finish. Perhaps we should award the playoff spot to the team that racks up the most zeros instead of points. Nevermind, there would be no separation there either…CAR climbs three spots in this week’s PRs.
27. Atlanta +1 (2-8)- The Falcons won only their second game of the year, but it was an all-important one, as they are now only a game behind the division-leading Panthers with a head-to-head advantage over the Bucs, the only other team alive in the division race. While there was some serious luck involved, as with Philip Rivers, it’s likely TB is tied for the division lead right now, Atlanta probably presents the best lineup and weapons of any of the NFC South teams. However, without a starting quarterback, it’s highly-unlikely that the Falcons would win a playoff game. This week, ATL jumps a spot to #27.
ELIMINATED 28. Indianapolis +2 (2-8)- The Colts, previously on an 8-game losing streak, found victory in Week 10 for the first time since the league’s opening slate of games. The 127 points was a season-high, as Mark Sanchez, Odell Beckham Jr. Clay Matthews, Antonio Cromartie and Bradley Roby all topped 10 points. Indy was eliminated from playoff contention a week ago, but while the season is over, it’s always nice to play spoiler, a role that Indy will look to reprise in Week 11. The Colts climb 2 spots with the win.
29. Tampa Bay -4 (2-8)- The previous division-leaders (by record/point total) are now a game off the pace after losing to Atlanta in Week 10. Tampa took almost nothing home on offense with the Philip Rivers bye, and defense was nearly equally fruitless. Outside of Marcell Dareus and Isaiah Crowell, Matt Prater was the third-leading scorer. However, only 9-points below ATL with no QB isn’t that bad, it only is when combined with the point total of the entire team (68.5) and the stage of the match up where the significance increases. TB is still in the race, but only barely, as the Bucs need the Falcons to win this week and lose in week 12 to the Saints, to beat the Saints themselves this coming week, and to win a head-to-head with CAR next week to win the NFC South. Otherwise, it’s the end of the road for the Bucs, who drop 4 spots this week.
ELIMINATED 30. St. Louis -4 (2-8)- The two-game win streak of several weeks ago is over, and it’s clear the team that St. Louis really is, and the one that was the imposter. Another sub-100 point game ended in a loss for the Rams, who only had two players top the 10-point mark. They drop 4 spots and back into the 30s with the 50+ point loss to SEA.
ELIMINATED 31. New Orleans 0 (1-9)- One week into division play, New Orleans was eliminated from the race. Now, the Saints are eliminated from the playoff race as well, after a horrid performance that saw the offense put together 9.5 points and a less-than-full defensive lineup drop a cool 29 points. With no kicker, that adds up to just short of 40 points on the day. Aaron Rodgers alone topped that number of the first half of his game last week. Unfortunately, he isn’t on New Orleans’ roster.
ELIMINATED 32. New York Jets 0 (0-10)- Even though the Jets, by performance alone, have not been the worst team, they are still winless, and so it’s hard to validate them jumping the Saints, even if they have played a much harder schedule. This week’s 70-point effort in a huge loss to the Patriots was deceiving, as the Jets fielded a lineup that was three players short. With two games remaining, NY will try to end the year with a win to prevent from finishing in dead last.
