Per usual, we will now extend bidding for 6 hours (I believe is the usual amount, right?).

A well timed bid. My boss came over and talked to me for like 15 mins right at the end of the bidding period and I was thinking this would be an inconvenient time for you to up the bid. Good move by waiting. Clearly my boss wants you to win the SB.

Do we still follow those rules? If we do then I will go $2/3y. If we don’t then I won’t complain about it.

Per usual, we will now extend bidding for 6 hours (I believe is the usual amount, right?). Can you direct me to the rule? It makes complete sense to have that rule, but I would be doing a disservice to the shareholders of this team if I didn’t at least do my diligence and read it before deciding what to do next.

5. The dubious strategy of last second bidding cannot be controlled in this process, but will be frowned upon. If it is judged that such a strategy has resulted in an unfair advantage, a decision will be made by the League Managers on whether or not the bidding was legitimate.
This is from the free agent rules. I think we need to clear up the language but the bid is definitely legitimate but it is an advantage waiting until the last minute (not saying you did this intentionally). The idea of the open bidding is to give the team willing to give the highest contract the player not who gets to bid last. To make it fair to everyone we extend the clock if it was determined a last minute bid was made. The bid still counts but to be fair we extend and the bidding continues.

The 6 hours needs to be inserted into the rule then, and it needs to be followed all season, not just in an important matchup. Surely throughout the season, somebody was outbid in the closing minutes, but were unaware they were supposed to get an extended opportunity to bid. The idea is to give it to the person who wins with the highest bid within 24 hours, or else a bid would never end. There has to be a cutoff somewhere. A wise man once claimed this was a “well-timed bid.” Truer words were never spoken.

Understood, Minn. Thanks for the explanation. Now that I've had a chance to read it, my view is that based on the text of the rule, the only thing admins are allowed to do is determine "whether or not the bidding was legitimate." You said that my bid was legitimate ("but the bid is definitely legitimate"), so I think it should end there based on the text of the rule.
With that being said, you've made your ruling, and I'll respect it. I'm out out of the bidding.

Also, it says league managers determine whether it is legitimate or not. Does this mean all league managers? I was not consulted.

No I made the decision. This is something we have done for years, the rules section needs to be updated. We haven’t had this issue come up very much lately. Our bidding is designed to go to the highest bidder. If we don’t extend teams can wait until there is one minute left and bid without the other team even seeing it. The extension was created because we had an issue with it in the past. This is the fair way to make sure the player goes to the team that is willing to pay the most. It’s not fair to give a team a few minutes to see the post and bid again. PHI said he was watching but his boss pulled him away for a few. If he had been watching and bid in time we would have extended it for HOU as well. We have always tried to be fair and at least let teams see the bid.

I remember this specifically being stated in the rules in the past but the former commisher decided that he was going to delete the league and not everything got copied over before that happened. So unfortunately there’s a decent amount of stuff like this that we made amendments to the rules for but the documentation of the amendments has been lost. HOU was around for the old leagues so I’m sure he remembers the rule too. But since it hasn’t come up in a while neither of us was sure how it was handled anymore.
