Well…that week happened. As if nothing more than a reminder after everything seemed to fall in place in Week 6, Week 7 showed us that fantasy football, as is its wont, is volatile and unpredictable. And if I had two words to describe Week 7, those would be them. Seattle remained at the top after another dominating win, but both of the other undefeateds (Buffalo and Jacksonville) lost to lesser opponents (Due to bye week induced hell), and will face off against each other this week…meaning one of those teams will quickly be 6-2 after a 6-0 start. Each of those teams fell one spot, and was leaped by Philly, who despite a somewhat lackluster effort still handled last-placed San Francisco, and is second in scoring (390 points behind Seattle). Minnesota, who won by less than a point, and Pittsburgh, who continues to find ways to win, suddenly finds itself atop the AFC North despite being 100 points behind Cincinnati, both move up a spot. Cincy falls two spots after perhaps the most shocking result of the week, scoring 148 and losing by 22+ to a KC team who only started 13 players by choice and scored 171+, despite their average being 95.7 through the first six weeks. Anything can happen folks.
Carolina and the Jets each move up one spot apiece after dominant wins, and Detroit drops two spots after dropping a surprise game to Tampa Bay. As Jordan informed me at the end of Monday night, that means for perhaps the second time ever (The firs being last week), all of the top-10 teams in the PRs are top-10 in scoring. That’s rather remarkable, that even despite the struggles of that group this week, they still are appropriately ranked in the top-10 it would seem.
In the teens, Houston climbs to #11, and is finally on the right side of .500 after beating a surging Miami team he was projected to lose to—and might have had Castle’s bad luck (Getting a QB benched at half, losing his RB in the 1Q, and his best WR, and leaving points on the bench) hadn’t reappeared, and now threatens to derail his season (And take away his Surge…pun intended ‘90s kids). Oakland stays at 12 despite the loss and sub-.500 record due to scoring. The Chargers drop two after the loss to PIT, and now three AFC West teams are within a game of one another. That division appears wide open. Baltimore climbs one spot after defeating OAK, and TB climbs two with their victory. Miami falls two spots, and Denver and Arizona each catapult five places and back into the middle third, ahead of New Orleans, who dropped that ever-so-close decision to Minnesota to close out the teens.
Cleveland falls four spots, and Dallas falls one after running into the juggernaut that is Seattle. Indy drops four spots after losing to a previously 0-win New England team who has not fielded a complete lineup for the last third of the season. Tennessee climbs two spots after their rousing surprise dethroning of Buffalo among the undefeateds, as do the Rams for their win over Washington, who fall one spot just below at 25. Kansas City, who uncharacteristically scored 75 points more than their average, doesn’t get rewarded too much, climbing one spot, as they once again started an incomplete lineup, and are 30 points behind the Redskins at this juncture even with the result. Atlanta, who lost to what has been a moribund Chicago team, becomes the lowest-ranked .500 or better team ever, I believe, at 27, as they are 28th in points. Then comes New England and Chicago, each climbing two spots only because everyone else below them lost. That’s all folks.
