You still made the choice to waive him as well.

Ok here is the retirement ruke in this league:
CDFL Retirement Rules
If a CDFL player retires in the NFL you will have the following options.
Option 1- You can drop the player and no matter how much the contract is salary/length. you only pay 1 year of penalty's at half the salary. But, Only 1 year.
Option 2- There is being a Retirement Addition to the roster. You can have only 1 retired player on your roster. you can keep the rights, but he will getting paid in full and he will lose a year just like a normal player after each season.
The only bonus is you get to remove him from active roster and replace that spot with an additional player.
Option 3- Just keep him on active roster.
You have three options and if you thought a player might unretire you could use Option 2. I feel that these options make sense trying to say that we should change them because a player unretires makes no sense since we have already built in that scenario. You make the choice keep him or not keep him.

You said it yourself, when a guy retires the team still takes the cap hit for his signing bonus in the NFL but not his salary. Seems like the rule should work similarly here. Just because you accounted for something in the rule book that doesn't mean it's a good rule.

It was basically the Brett Favre rule as he kept on retiring and coming back and freed up roster space in the meantime. If it is tweaked Option 3 would not make any sense since Option 2 would give you all you need at a reduced price. Food for thought for the powers to be.

Yeah if we change option 2 to what I'm proposing then we could eliminate option 3 and make everything simpler.
I've given up trying to get a reduced cap hit for Orr. I just want the rule to be in the best interest of the league going forward.
